The Boot Camp Series

"Life Skills for Dogs ; Leadership for People”

This course series is unique in the metropolitan area for great value in your training investment. You'll develop your dog's skills and learn how to help him succeed. Each class session sets clear and concise goals. If you do not achieve them, your tuition entitles you to retake that class at no charge*.

It's an American tradition that Boot Camp brings out the best in every recruit, regardless of background or upbringing. We bring that tradition to you and your dog, to be

'...The best you both can be...'

The Boot Camp Series is most often associated with reactive, more challenging dogs but by popular demand we've added 'Life Skills for Dogs' sessions for dogs 5 - 6 months or older who are generally sociable and easy-going but who need to learn better manners.

If this sounds like your dog and you're '...looking for a really good dog...', a Life Skills for Dogs class might be just the right selection. 'Life Skills for Dogs' sessions carry the same retake guarantee as our regular Boot Camp sessions.

Each session is 6 classes of approximately 75 - 90 minutes.

If you have any questions about which class is the right one for your dog, drop a note to the instructor at Steve@KampKanine.com. We take a special interest in placing your dog in the right class.

*No Charge Retake Program Terms and Conditions:

If your dog does not reach the goals set for your Session, the same dog/handler team will be welcome to retake that level at no charge in an upcoming regularly scheduled session. To qualify, you must attend a minimum of 5 classes and complete assignments for homework away from class.

Class Descriptions:

Level I - The Focus is on the FUNdamentals

A great beginning for all dogs who are approximately 6 months old who might have some trouble with manners or present real challenges to their owners. You'll learn how to get your dog turned around and going in the right direction.

Doggie Boot Camp accommodates all dogs, including those who are reactive or excitable - who bark, lunge, and pull, or are unruly and difficult to control. Your dog will learn public manners around people and dogs, self control and reliability in distracting environments, and calmness during handling and greetings. Owners will develop confidence and insight into the best way to help their dog succeed by learning, expanding on and applying the five behaviors most important to owners: loose leash walking, sit, down, stay, and come.

Classes focus on having your dog be a thinking, responsible companion in the real world. The curriculum is flexible and tailored to accommodate the needs of the individual students while working in a class environment.

While some dogs will require a private session for prework or evaluation, most can join the class w
ithout delay.

Level II - Citizenship for the 21st Century

Level II is for dogs and handlers who have completed Level I or who can execute the requisite foundational skills. Work on public manners around people and dogs, self control and reliability in distracting environments, and calmness during handling and greetings will continue. More advanced exercises requiring the dog to work at distance from the handler will be added while the basics are polished.

You'll improve leash walking, sit, down, stay, and come. 'Heel', 'stand', the place board and send away will be started. Flexible curriculum continues and is tailored to accommodate the needs of the individual students while working in a class environment.

This is also a good next class for people who want some extra rigor added to their training program. Placement in Boot Camp III is skills based and we welcome dogs and owners who have developed these in other schools and programs.

At completion, your dog should be at or near qualification for the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Certificate.

Level III - My Dog is My Companion

The challenge continues! Level III is for dogs and handlers who have completed Boot Camp II or who have attained 'heel' and started the 'stand'.. As in all Boot Camp classes, we'll stress the skills needed to be a regular companion in your daily travels. We finish development of the 'stand' and the 'recall' is extended to greater distances and distractions. You'll also learn some great ways to add excerise to your dog's daily activities.

Variations of the previous work will be added while all the foundation skills are reviewed and polished. Flexible curriculum continues and is tailored to accommodate the needs of the individual students while working in a class environment.

At completion of Level III, your dog should be prepared to successfully complete the AKC's Companion Dog exercises, the long-standing benchmark by which dogs are measured.
